Tips and Instructions

  • Where is my Canvas Course?

There are a few reasons why you may not be able to see or access your courses right now.

    • “I’m a new student, and when I try to access Canvas it says I don’t have an account.”
      • Your Canvas account will activate once you register for a class. It takes a few hours for new course registration data to update in Canvas. Wait at least three hours between registering for a course and logging into Canvas. Make sure your course registration is processed correctly by checking the My Schedule tile on your InSite dashboard.

    • “I just registered for a course, and I don’t see it in Canvas.”
      • Verify that you successfully registered for courses by viewing the My Schedule tile on your InSite dashboard.
      • It takes a few hours for new course registration data to update in Canvas. Wait at least three hours between registering for a course and checking for your course(s) on Canvas. Make sure your course registration is processed correctly by checking the My Schedule tile on your InSite dashboard.

    • “I’m registered for my course(s) in InSite, it’s been at least three hours since registering, and I still don’t see my courses in Canvas.”
      • Before the first day of class: Each class is set to open on a specific start date, and depending on the date your class starts, you may not be able to view it yet. Your instructor may open the course before the first day of class – check your InSite email for communication from your instructor about early Canvas course access.
      • After the first day of class: Courses must be published by your instructor before you can access them. If a course is not accessible to you in your course list, it may not be published. Contact your instructor for more information about when your Canvas Course will be available.
      • You may need to clear the memory cache in the browser if you are not seeing your classes. Browsers hold old images of web pages to speed up browsing, but these can become corrupt. Log out of Canvas, clear your browser cache, then log back into Canvas. If you need help clearing your browser cache, contact the LMC Student Technology Help Desk, District IT Helpdesk at 925-229-6888, or contact 24/7 Canvas support.
